How great are mums…

My mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s around the same time I became a mum. Until Sienna was about one year old, my mum loved to help feed and change nappies. After that her mental state declined rapidly and even though she seems to recognise us when we visit, she is now non-verbal - although occasionally graces us with a big smile and chuckle.

My parents were Vietnam war refugees so we didn’t have much money growing up but my mum always gave me a handful of gold coins to put into charity buckets at the train station when we took the train into the city to go to the cinemas. She was always my biggest supporter in every creative endeavour I embarked on - and trust me, there were a lot. My mum was generous, strong and kind. I see those traits in my own daughter which makes me feel closer to mum even though I miss the old her every day. Even though she can’t understand or appreciate all the pots I paint now, she will always be one of my biggest inspirations in art and in life.

This Sunday 9 May we celebrate mums (me), stepmums (also me), grandmothers, mother-in-law, parental figures, fur mums (me times two), mums-to-be, mums of angels, and plant mums (absolutely 100% me). No matter what you’re doing on Sunday, I hope your day is filled with a whole lot of love!

The Lone Grimmer Collection

I’m sure it comes as no surprise that my favourite thing to do is paint pots. It’s often the first thing I think about when I wake up, and the last thought on my mind when I go to sleep. Recently I have enjoyed painting one-off designs sparked by whatever inspiration I am feeling right now. I’ve been calling them Lone Grimmers because there might only ever be one of each.

Sometimes I might be inspired by a pattern in the concrete of a sidewalk. Or the colours of a swimsuit in a store window. The other day I stopped to snap a photo of some gift wrap in a shop because I saw a shape I liked. I love exploring new places and things because it sparks all kinds of inspiration and creativity for me. The more I see, the more inspired I am. Is it the same for you?

As you already know, newsletter subscribers receive early access to the Lone Grimmer pots before the collection is available to the general public. The May release is live NOW so click on the button below to make that special pot yours!
